Title

College Commencement Ceremony Ivy

Description

A dried ivy clipping given to Mason Seggebruch from her Eureka College commencement ceremony from May 2019. Each member of the graduating class is given a piece of ivy to take upon their graduation to remember the connection to their alma mater. Upon the beginning of their education at Eureka College, students are given a piece of ivy to place in a basket to join into the community and then when they leave are given a sprig to keep.

Mason values this item since it is a memento from her undergraduate commencement ceremony and it also serves as a reminder of the good times of her college years. Knowing that other students from her class also received and kept their piece of ivy gives her a sense of community with her fellow alumni. Being a part of a greater group of alumni and the Eureka College network gives Mason a sense of hope for the future and a bit of nostalgia when remembering her small college.
