The Vatican City state is located outside of Rome. It is the home to the Roman Catholic church. The Vatican City controlled territory around Rome from the 4th century to 1870 and served as a center of control for the Papal States. In 1929, Vatican City sovereignty was recognized. The Vatican City is the smallest city state and has a population of 800 residents. The Vatican City is home to significant pieces of Renaissance art, such as Michelangelo’s frescoes in the Sistine Chapel and Raphael’s Stanze rooms. (1)

The September 2018 trip to Europe with her brother was a bucket list trip for Katherine. Not only was she able to spend time with her brother Steven Sosa-Krall and his husband, Rafel Sosa-Krall, she visited London, Paris, and Rome, cities she had always wanted to see. While in these cities she saw precious art and learned about European history. Katherine purchased the souvenirs listed above to commemorate her favorite places she visited.
