Cedar Point History

Cedar Point is located in Sandusky Ohio and is an amusement park along the shore of Lake Erie. Cedar Point opened in 1870 "when the first bathhouse and other forms of entertainment were built" (1). The attraction only continues to grow from there. By 1892 they have their first rollercoaster which was only powered by gravity (2). The park continues to blossom as a vacation area as hotels, roads, and other tourist attractions begin to populate the Cedar Point area. By 1964 the park had animal shows, state of the art rollercoasters in greater numbers, survived a plan to turn it into a residential area. and opposition from the NAACP as Cedar Point would not allow for Black guests to stay overnight in their hotels. In 2020 the amusement park celebrated 150 years of entertainment.
