Flyer, Harris Fawell for Republican Illinois 13th Congressional District Representative, 1984

Tricolor bifold campaign flyer for Harris Fawell, running for 13th Congressional District Representative in 1984. The 4” x 9” flyer’s obverse features Fawell both in a single-subject monochrome portrait photo and in a monochrome family portrait photo with wife Ruth and their adult children, and infant grandson Nicholas, with Harris’ name bannered beneath these against a gold background. A Fawell quotation regarding the three priorities of a Congressman from The Chicago Tribune’s subsidiary “Hinsdale Doings” sits below it. The flyer’s reverse features Harris’ comical campaign logo against the same gold background, with its charging stovepipe-hat-wearing elephant bearing a blanket banner with Fawell’s name and office bid, above an extensive list of Legislative Achievements and upstate media endorsements, Professional Record, Civic Activities, and party activities. Fawell goes on to win, successfully holding the office 1984-1989. Contributor Mary Hudgins is a former legislative intern who visited the law offices of Fawell in her childhood. A graduate of Sangamon State University (now University of Illinois at Springfield) in Political Science, she is originally from Naperville. She believes that the election items in her personal collection are rare, and wants to insure their preservation through digitization in the 2016 UIS History Harvest project.
