The Story of Paris

This booklet would have been presented to those American troops who would have been stationed in France, specifically in Paris, during the Great War. The book itself serves as a guide to the city of Paris, details points of interest, and includes detailed maps of the city.  While the booklet was published by the YMCA, it appears that the French publishing company listed on the cover page, Librarie Hachette, was not officially called by this name until 1919, after the war had ended. (1) On the first page, the book lists that it was “published for the use of American Soldiers and Sailors.” This might indicate that if this particular booklet was printed after the war, those in possession may still have been stationed in or around Paris and would need a guide to explore the city they were kept in.
